Pintester Movement: Ombre Nails (aka Ombre Fails)

I decided to participate in this round of the Pintester Movement. The Pintester Movement was started by the Pintester, (hilarious and cool chick) Sonja Foust. I decided to re-test her attempt at Ombre Nails. You can find the original post on how to do this at The Nailasaurus.

I would like to apologize in advance for the shitty quality of the pictures. And also what I'm sure will be shitty, half-assed writing/blogging/grammaring. As with most things in life, I procrastinated a bit on this. And by a bit, I mean a lot. Seriously. I'll be lucky if I even get this done in time to send in the info. It's July 11th 8:30 pm, people.

So I started by gathering the supplies: plastic paper sleeve thingy (sorry if it looks dirty in the pics. My son used it last year and it was what I had close by), toothpick, makeup sponge, Aquaphor, NYC Extra Shiny Topcoat, and Sinful Colors nail polishes in Cream Pink and Timbleberry.

Don't let this photo fool you. This will be the only one that is decent quality.

Pink base color. (I did this on both hands before realizing I would only be taking pics of one of them and was therefore wasting precious minutes. Durr) Wait til dry.

I quickly slapped down the two colors as instructed and swirled them a bit with the tooth pick. You can't really tell much diff between the colors from these pics but they are totally different.

I sponged the two colors on and got this hot mess. This pic is pretty accurate. I can't see any of the orange here. Just looks pink. I even repainted the sponge before each nail like Sonja suggested.

So I waited for it to (mostly) dry and did a second pass of the pink and orange sponged mess. Meh....whatever. Maybe a clear top coat will help?

Nope.

Oops, I lied. Look how professional this pic is. Fancy.

In conclusion, my high hopes were slapped back to reality and this was a fail. Wah-waaah. Maybe it was my rushing due to procrastination. Maybe it was my choice of colors. Or maybe Pinterest is just a big fucking troll and makes things look easier than they really are. Yeah...It's definitely Pinterest.

But thanks anyway, Sonja. This was fun!

    1. I thought I was safe with a nail pin. It looked so easy *facepalm* Lies.

This failure has kinda fueled my determination to make this pin my bitch. One day I shall be victorious!

  3. You did better than I would have! Did the lotion help keep the polish off your skin?

    1. Yeah, except this was messier than I anticipated and I didn't put is that far down on my finger. Still, it's a handy dandy trick.

  7. So after an entire day of being unable to reply to comments everything has somehow fixed itself. Seriously. I don't know what happened. I got fed up and walked away from the internet before I threw it out a window and now everything is easy fuckin peasy. Uuumm....ok.

  8. Awesome pin! If you ever are successful at making this pin your bitch, we need pictures. Because my daughter wants to do this and I don't want to deal with the clean up or the hysterical 9 year old girl when it doesn't work the first time LOL. Thanks so much for putting this out there:)!

    1. LOL They totally do! And I couldn't be bothered to clean them up for the last photo because I was taking that shit right off when I was done.

I'm planning to do a rematch with this one in the future just in case this fail was due to the colors being similar. Or my half-assed rushing.
